Social Neuroscience - Psychologists neuroscientists and anthropologists together

A rapidly growing field of research called "social neuroscience" draws together psychologists, neuroscientists and anthropologists all studying the neural basis for the social interaction between humans.

Traditionally, cognitive neuroscientists focused on scanning the brains of people doing specific tasks such as eating or listening to music, while social psychologists and social scientists concentrated on groups of people and the interactions between them. To understand how the brain makes sense of the world, it was inevitable that these two groups would have to get together. >> continue

..being reminded of another transdisciplinary research project that has started in March this year:

“Repräsentation stellt ein hochaktuelles, in Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften gleichermaßen interessierendes Problemfeld dar. Unter Reprä sentationen werden Leistungen des Bewusstseins und des Gehirns verstanden (oder erhofft), die zu wahrem und nützlichem Wissen über die Wirklichkeit führen. Viele grundlagenth eoretische Fragen sind aber nicht oder nicht hinreichend beantwortet: Wie kommen der Geist oder das Gehirn des Menschen zu Vorstellungen über die Wirklichkeit? Welche Beziehungen bestehen zwischen neuronalen und geistigen Prozessen? Wie wird Wirklichkeit in Zeichen und Symbolen dargestellt? Ziel des Projekts ist, in der gemeinsamen Forschung von Philosophen und experimentellen Neurowis senschaftlern neue Zugänge zur Repräsenta tionsproblematik zu eröffnen. Aus der Kombination unterschiedlicher Perspektiven und Methoden soll eine allgemeine, in verschiedenen Disziplinen zu nutzende theoretische Plattform zum Verständnis von Repräsentation entstehen und für die Öffentlichkeit im Bereich von Wissenschaft, Bildung, Studium und Kultur verfügbar gemacht werden.”
